About Beal Street
Academy
Beal Street Academy is a small private school serving students in
grades 6 through 12. Our goal is to provide a fresh start for children who
have struggled to achieve their full potential. We welcome
students who have fallen behind due to illness, disability, or problems with
a one-size-fits-all instruction model. In
many cases we can help a student make up lost ground and quickly return to
his or her referring school, newly equipped with self confidence and the
skills to succeed.
Our primary modes of instruction are Precision Teaching and Direct
Instruction. We are patterned after
Ben Bronz Academy in West
Hartford, Connecticut, and
Morningside Academy in Seattle, Washington.
History
Beal Street Academy was founded through a unique collaboration between
Richard McManus, the staff of the
Fluency Factory tutoring center, and several parents of children receiving tutoring at
the Fluency Factory. Prior to going to the Fluency Factory, these
children struggled in their education,
leaving them unhappy and frustrated. We are proud to say that the
tutoring provided by the Fluency Factory helped the children reach
unexpected levels of learning. The parents, happy with the enormous
success their children experienced, first encouraged Richard to start a new
school, and then were instrumental in helping Richard and the Fluency
Factory staff to establish the Beal Street Academy.
In the short time since inception, our students have gained abilities far
beyond their previous expectations in reading, composition, and mathematics.
Their new skills led to confidence that helped our students become calmer,
more social, better-behaved individuals. They have become eager,
inquisitive learners who work together to solve problems and learn new
skills.
